add a comment about this item | System Expiry Date December 2010 | Text Blooms of toxic algae in lakes and seas can be combated using ultrasound to burst their buoyancy cells, causing the algae to sink. The research carried out by a team from the University of Hull tried three different frequencies on a particularly harmful species of algae, Anabaena sphaerica. They found that a frequency of around 1 MHz was most effective and offers the potential for clearing large areas of water. | Keywords ALGAE BLOOM; WATER QUALITY; REMEDIATION
