Diaphanosoma brachyurum
Diaphanosoma brachyurum Diaphanosoma brachyurum

A relatively small planktonic Cladoceran, of approximately 1mm length. This species is commonplace in both the open waters and inshore areas of lakes. Diaphanosoma feed on small phytoplankton and, possibility, bacteria. This species may itself be an important source of food for predatory zooplankton species.
