Japanese knotweed could be brought under control by introducing a predator that occurs naturally in Japan. A list of 186 predators of Japanese knotweed has been whittled down to just 2 (a psyllid insect Aphalara itadori and a leaf-spot fungus from the genus Mycosphaerella) after trials to test the effects on other common UK plants.
