Description This event will take place on National Moth Night (starting at 9pm - finish 11.45 approx) and form part of the network of moth recorders across the country who are seeing what is around in their district on the special moth night of the year. Taking advantage of the lakeside location, we will also look for the mysterious night-time flying stages of the many insects that breed as larvae in the lake and adjoining streams. We are keen to identify and record what we find, and submit the data to the National Moth Recording Scheme (Moths Count), as well as other National Recording Schemes, such as for caddis. Dr Ian Wallace from the World Museum in Liverpool and the National Coordinator for the Caddisfly Recording Scheme will be sharing his expertise and enthusiasm with participants, all welcome from first timers to seasoned experts!
The following morning will be an opportunity to look at what has been caught. The traps will be opened at 9.30 am, but for those who cannot make that time there will be material in tubes to view for an hour after, before being released. There will also be a chance to look at the larvae of the flying adults, with some trays of samples from the lake available.

The session from 2-5 and the Sunday morning session will be run as a drop in event.
For the evening moth event, booking is essential and there is a maximum of 20 participants, people need to bring torches, warm, waterproof clothing and stout footwear, children must be accompanied by an adult, due to the late finish time people will need transport to get back round the lake after the ferry has finished it's last trip, the exact nature of the event is weather dependent although there will be something taking place no matter what the conditions.
