The Freshwater Biological Association (FBA) provides the home for FreshwaterLife and practical support. The FBA holds legal responsibility for FreshwaterLife, acting as the direct assignable body by employing FreshwaterLife staff and holding project finances.

Promoting excellence in freshwater science. The Freshwater Biological Association is a Registered Charity and an independent membership organisation, with members drawn from around the world. Founded in 1929, it aims to promote freshwater science through innovative research, scientific meetings and publications, and by providing sound, independent opinion. It publishes a variety of identification keys to freshwater organisms and specialist volumes, and has one of the finest freshwater libraries in the world. Membership is open to anyone who is interested in freshwater science and wishes to support the Association.
