Text

Following on from a previous study which indicated that parasitic trematodes might be the cause of deformities in frogs, two researchers in America have found that eutrophication is an important factor as it provides favourable conditions for the parasites host. Ponds rich in organic matter are an ideal habitat for the Ramshorn snail, an essential stage in the life cycle of the parasite Ribeiroia ondatrae which has been implicated as a cause of frog deformities.
